What is a Software-defined Network?

Software-defined Network – This is a network formed by a collection of decoupled, centralized controllers which overlay above the actual network hardware (on-site or in the cloud).

 

Software-defined Networks are recommended because;

1. They provide centralized configuration and management of physical and virtual network devices.
2. They can help in containing vulnerabilities of systems before they spread throughout the network.
3. They implement network policies consistently and use open controllers (rather than vendor-specific protocols), thus providing operational efficiency.
4. They can dynamically perform load balancing which reduces latency and thus increases network efficiency.
