Internet Privacy Series
If you checked out the previous Internet Privacy article on thetqweb, you already know how to eliminate tracking partially. If you have not, get informed today by “How to enhance Internet Privacy with Firefox and DuckDuckGo“, an exclusive step by step article clearly describing how to begin bettering your Internet Privacy (which I believe many people would really love to achieve, but do not possess the correct set of info)
Assuming we are at the same point now, already using the Firefox browser with Duckduckgo search engine, lets move on to the DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials extention.
DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials extension add-on
Launch/open Firefox browser.
On the Firefox menu, navigate to “Add-ons“. Alternately, you can use the keyboard shortcut, “Ctrl + Shift + A“. You can also go to “Options“ and navigate to “Extentions & Themes” or enter “about:addons” in your address bar. All these options will land you to the same destination:
On the “Search addons.mozilla.org” text area, search for ”DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials“.
The resulting page should be something like:
Click on the extention to begin the process of installing it:
Click on the “Add to Firefox” button to install the add-on. This will result in a popup in your toolbar, requesting your permission. Click on “Add” to add DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials extension to your Firefox browser.
This action will generate yet another popup still on your toolbar, requesting access to your Firefox private windows. Remember Private windows are not a guarantee of your privacy, they just tell your browser not to save history. Therefore, I’d recommend allowing access to your private windows as well (Remember DuckDuckGo doesn’t snoop around your data):
Now we are done installing DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials to Firefox. To confirm that the process works, go back to your “Extentions & Themes” (Refer to the first step):
If you got the extension toggled-on, you are all set-up!
You may at times feel the need to manage the extension for whatever reason, maybe to configure how you want the extendion’s updates to be delivered, to modify the access to private windows, to remove the extension and/or even to report the extension. To do so, click on the three dots next to the toggle button to generate a dropdown menu:
